Out of the blue, here comes the Calvary

I had a couple of emails set up to send today, but after the brawl in Montgomery, Alabama this weekend that made national headlines…I could not resist talking about it. 

Here’s the basic gist of what happened: 

A riverboat cruise was returning from a tour and was trying to dock, but another pontoon boat had docked in its normal spot. The security guard asked the pontoon boat to move so the riverboat could dock, but those on the pontoon got mad that they had to move. They got off to confront the guard, words were exchanged, and a fight ensued. The fight grew bigger when others came to help the security guard. We even saw a 16-year-old jump from the riverboat and swim toward the brawl. (True meaning of “by any means necessary”, don’t you think??) 

The videos, memes, tee shirts, and everything else that have come from these viral videos are nothing short of epic.  

I’m not going to talk about who was right or wrong in this situation, nor will I talk about my opinion on what should have happened. The reason I’m not going there is because if I get started on my soapbox, I may say something to start an online war with folks and I don’t want to do that. 

My focus for this email is on that dude who jumped in the water to assist.  

Dude was bold. He saw a need - period. He did not care about how far away he was or that he really did not know what he was getting into. The hat went up in the air, and he hopped into the water to answer the call. Swimmer dude left the comfort and safety of the riverboat to assist because he saw a need that he could fill. 

I will say this - if I ever get into a situation where additional backup help is needed, I hope that “the swimmer” is around.

The goal is to make sure that parents who feel overwhelmed on the daily and concerned about what they will be feeding their families during back-to-school time will have something to help the ideas start flowing. . If you don’t need dinner ideas, then that’s fine. Get it for someone you know that needs help with ideas for dinners or share it with the families with school age children that you know. It’s a great feeling to know that you have an assist from someone outside looking in.
