Our word for 2024 is definitely NOT Thunderbird

01/01/2024

Happy New Year! Hope you are relaxing or having fun with family, or getting some work done like I did today.

I promised you I would share my word for 2024, but first a bit of backstory.

When I was a tiny tot, my daddy had a liquor cabinet in the dining room. I was threatened with death if I touched the cabinet, and I was scared of what they might do, so I never even went that way. The cabinet had a variety of things inside (at least what I saw when the aunts and uncles came over to play cards and dominoes on the weekends). The cabinet got old and the slider stopped working when I was in middle school, so he found another cabinet to replace it on the side of the road. I was an unwilling participant in the cleanup and painting of the new furniture that became the next liquor cabinet.

One of the liquors that was in the cabinet was Thunderbird wine. They would keep it “hidden” in the cabinet until the morning of the party, then would put it in the bottom of the fridge to get super cold before party time.

When one of my uncles would get there, he would chant these words (never sure where these came from, but I guess they were on a commercial for this stuff):

"What's the word? / Thunderbird / How's it sold? / Good and cold / What's the jive? / Bird's alive / What's the price? / Thirty twice."

My family would laugh it up every weekend he said it, and they’d toast each other with wine as they set up the card tables.

In 2017, a guy I listened to about business online talked about having a “word of the year".

His basic premise was to figure out what you wanted to be known for in your business, and then find that ONE word which will get you to the place in your mind to help you make those things reality.

That made a lot of sense to me, so that next year, my word was JUMP.

This year, my word is FINISH.

Why?

Because I have a ton of things that I started years ago, but never finished. Plus, there are things I have wanted to accomplish over the years, but never really pulled the trigger on the idea..

Just as a few examples of stuff on my “Finisher Campaign” list - yep, my list of 50+ things has a name and everything:

  • Fitness motivation book idea

  • Crochet tank for myself I started in 2018

  • Connect to Low Stress Options trading group

  • Plan 15th anniversary in-town fun

2024 will be my year to step up and finish the ideas in my head.

How about you?

Do you have a defining word for 2024??

If not, I would love to connect and talk about it.

Your partner, the finisher,

Clarissa
